ADC Applications

An isolated ADC that cuts costs without cutting corners.

For half the price of traditional solutions, HP’s new isolated analog-to- digital converter delivers the performance you need to measure current accurately in AC servo drives. This programmable 15-bit ADC comprises two components: the HCPL-7860 isolated modulator combined with either the HCPL-0870 or HCPL-7870 digital interface IC. The pair creates an isolated ADC that costs less and delivers more than other popular converters without isolation.

Smooth operator.

Because the ADC is designed specifically to interface directly with microcontroller-based, precision closed-loop AC servo-drive systems, you’re assured of precision current sensing with 12-bit linearity, so your systems will operate smoothly at low RPMs.

Programmable for system flexibility.

You can program the digital interface IC to five different conversion modes for resolution/speed trade-offs. Other programmable features include a fast 3 ms over-range detector to prevent system failures, offset calibration to ensure system accuracy, and internal reference voltage.
