The world is getting smaller and so are IR emitters and detectors.

When your products are shrinking but your market's demands for performance and value aren't, you naturally look for every opportunity to pack more power into smaller and smaller spaces. Here's the latest opportunity from HP: the first infrared emitter/detector pair in subminiature, surface-mount packaging (through-hole configurations are also available).

The smallest IR emitter/detectors you can buy.

The HSDL-44XX IR emitter series and the HSDL-54XX IR detector series measure just 2 x 2 mm, making them ideal for small appli-ances or where high board density is required.

Available with a flat lens and 110 degree viewing angle or a dome lens and 24 degree viewing angle, these components are perfect for short, directed beam applications and diffuse applications where total optical power is important.

Fast, bright and efficient, too.

The HSDL-44XX emitters are based on high-power, high-speed TS AlGaAs technology. At 40 ns, they are 10 times faster than other infrared emitters used for remote control or sensor applications. The HSDL-54XX detectors are high-speed PIN photodiodes capable of 50 MHz bandwidth. The smallest emitter/detector pairs using this technology, these components are IrDA compatible at 115 Kbps. You can also use them in proprietary applications up to 10 Mbps.

High efficiency makes these components the right choice where prolonged battery life is important or when you need high brightness for longer distances. Plus, they're specified for a temperature range from -40 to 85 degrees C, so you can use them with confidence in industrial and automotive applications.
