Pushing LEDs to a new level of reliability.

For years, component manufacturers have been wrestling with the number one reliability problem in LEDs - the fragile wire that connects the die to the leadframe. This wire accounts for 85% of all LED failures, so solving the problem would dramatically increase the life of the LEDs you install in your products.

The "wireless" solution.

HP's new Flipchip LED technology finally solves the wire problem by getting rid of the wire entirely. By placing the die on its side and soldering it directly to a circuit board, we've eliminated the wire and its reliability concerns. HP's Flipchip solution is the first "wireless" LED available in production quantities, and the new level of reliability makes these components ideal for applications subject to both physical and thermal stresses.

Flipchip is smaller and less expensive, too.

A wireless LED also yields two other major benefits. Eliminating the wire eliminates an expensive manufacturing step, and it allows for smaller LED packages. In fact, we're already manufacturing a Flipchip that is only 0.6 mm high, the lowest-profile LED available today.

This combination of higher reliability, lower cost and smaller packaging will benefit designers working in a wide range of product categories, from automobiles to signs to personal communication devices. Look forward to a variety of new LEDs based on the Flipchip technology, each designed to meet the competitive demands of your particular market.

Get wireless with new Flipchip LEDs - the world's smallest.

Your efforts to build smaller products with higher reliability are about to get a big boost. HP's new HSMX-H670 and HSMX-H690 series, the first components from HP's revolutionary Flipchip technology, include LEDs less than a millimeter high. And not only are these LEDs smaller, they're much more reliable without the wire.

A great fit wherever other LEDs won't.

Their small size, light weight and rugged reliability make the HSMX-H670 and HSMX-H690 series ideal for designs where space is limited, such as cellular phones or other handheld products. The low profile and wide viewing angle are perfect for illuminating front panels or backlighting keypads, symbols or LCDs.

And you don't have to compromise on color, either. These LEDs are available in orange, yellow, green and high-efficiency red, so you have the color choice that really fits your application.

Still easy to install.

The HSMX-H670 and HSMX-H690 series adhere to standard industry footprints, so they easily fit into your board designs. They're available in 8 mm tape on 7 inch (178 mm) diameter reels, and they're fully compatible with both IR and convective reflow soldering processes.
