Wide Area Networks for Campus to City to Country

The dependability and performance that wide area networks require

Product Pix
HP is a major supplier of components for long-haul communications via fiber-optic cable or satellite, and provides components that help protect sensitive electronic equipment connected to copper wire..

As we move towards the connected future, there is an escalating demand from corporations, universities and research centers to move large amounts of information quickly between their geographically dispersed sites. The applications used to do this, ranging from data-intensive graphics to real-time video, require ultra high-speed computer connections.

Optocouplers

HP optocouplers offer a “safety net” when connecting sensitive electronic equipment to external sources. For example, when connecting equipment such as a modem to a telephone line, optocouplers may be used to protect the circuitry from high-voltage spikes while passing data and such necessary information as “ring” and “on/off hook” detection.

Our wide range of optocouplers is optimized for high-speed data or analog signals and features an extremely high degree of protection. Schottky diodes are also widely used to protect digital circuits. Since they switch in picoseconds, they’re often the fastest protection available.

Optical amplifiers

HP offers a range of optical amplification devices, including 980 and 1480 nm erbium fiber amplifiers in both laboratory and field-deployable versions, and 980 and 1480 nm pump lasers with outputs up to 90 mW.

Fiber optic transceivers, transmitters and receivers

In telecom, the rapid introduction of ATM and SONET/SDH has resulted in HP innovations in optical transceivers and discrete emitter and detector components with a range of performance characteristics. HP’s advanced integrated eye-safe laser and PIN-based transmitter and receiver modules, for example, simplify and accelerate the design of single mode telecommunications transmission equipment. These components provide compact, low-power solutions at data rates of 52, 155, 622 Mb/s and up to 2.4 Gb/s; they are designed for extended temperature ranges and many are compliant to Bellcore reliability, qualification and characterization standards.

Satellite earth station applications

For wide area communications systems incorporating satellite links, HP supplies modules for VSAT and INMARSAT transmitters and transceivers operating at 0.5 to 5.0 watts, as well as RF and microwave semiconductors. In addition, HP has developed internally-matched power field effect transistors (IMFETs) used for high-power amplifiers in C-band. IMFETs, providing 4, 8, 16 and 32 watts in C-band, are also available for SATCOM uplink terminals as well as output power amplifiers for point-to-point radio systems.
