[Fiber Optic Transceivers, Transmitters, and Receivers] [Fibre Channel Components] [RF Integrated Circuits] [Transistors] [Diodes] [Product Summary] Local Area Networks for Office and Industrial ApplicationsMaking local area networks reliable and secureWith todays ever increasing emphasis on interconnected workgroup computing, companies are continually demanding higher performance from their local area networks. From simple file sharing to sophisticated database access, existing applications depend on the highest possible throughput and reliability for maximum productivity. At HP, we offer a broad line of components for fiber optic, infrared and RF wireless connections for LAN applications in both the office and factory environments. These solutions support all major datacom and telecom industry standards, such as ATM, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, 100 VG AnyLAN, Token Ring, FDDI, Fibre Channel and HiPPI, as well as proprietary networking and point-to-point standards. OptocouplersEnabling communication in industrial applications such as CAN bus, RS 485, DeviceNet and Profibus networks, the HP line of high-speed optocouplers protects sensitive electronic circuitry from electrical noise generated on the factory floor. Such noise can take the form of transients and voltage drops due to switching transients or lightning strikes. These optically-isolated devices can transmit analog and digital data at rates to 50 Mb/s.Infrared transceivers, emitters and detectorsWith the widespread growth of portable computers and the IrDA standard, infrared cableless connection to LANs has become practical.Through our leadership in developing the IrDA standard, HP has pioneered the development of low-cost, integrated IR transceivers, and discrete emitters and detectors that provide short distance cableless links between portable computers, peripherals, equipment controllers and local area networks.
HPs infrared components meet IrDA standards to 4 Mb/s. In addition, we work closely with vendors that supply both the complementary ICs that interface to the transceivers and the soft-ware that communicates between computer and transceiver.
Fiber optic transceivers, transmitters and receiversFor office applications, HP offers the industrys most extensive line of fiber optic multimode (MMF) and single mode (SMF) transceivers, transmitters, receivers and complementary ICs using LED, laser and high-speed silicon IC technologies. These products are designed on common package platforms such as standard 1x9, 1x13, 2x9 and 2x11 footprints-- which accommodate SC and ST connectors--and at common data rates to 622 Mb/s. This approach enables low-cost, high-volume production, resulting in economies that we are then able to pass on to our customers. For industrial datacom applications, our product line encom-passes 650 nm, 820 nm and 1300 nm components that can be used with plastic, HCS* and 62.5/125 micron glass fiber optic cable. These low-cost components have data rates that range to 155 Mb/s, with ranges of up to two kilometers.

Fibre Channel componentsHPs Fibre Channel component line includes transmitters, receivers, transceivers and card-level products for both fiber and copper media interfaces, meeting all ANSI Fibre Channel standard data rates of 133, 266, 531 and 1063 MBd. In addition, we have released our FC1-FC4 layer-compliant protocol IC to the market, enabling designers to develop full network interface card functionality by merely adding the bus interface logic to the protocol IC and transceivers.RF integrated circuitsHP offers a variety of integrated circuits such as integrated transmit-receive switches, direct-conversion and dual-conversion vector modulators, active mixers, LNAs and general-purpose gain blocks. Our new ultra-miniature SC70-packaged RFICs allow customers to design smaller circuits for PC Card wireless LAN applications.TransistorsHPs range of silicon bipolar and GaAs transistors provide specialized solutions for low-noise amplifiers and oscillators, as well as an extensive range of general-purpose RF transistors to add gain or increase power throughout a system design. Our transistors, designed for low power consumption, are ideal for PC Card applications.DiodesHP Schottky-barrier diodes can be used to make frequency upconverters and downconverters. HP PIN diodes are frequently used in gain control, switching, and level-setting applications in wireless LANs. Schottky and PIN diodes can provide higher performance at a lower cost than GaAs or silicon ICs.Product SummaryOffice and Industrial Local Area Networks
