Cellular/PCS Switching Centers and Base Stations

Making the wireless world work

HP is a leading supplier of cellular analog base station amplifiers with output powers of up to 45 watts, covering both North American and international frequency bands. We also offer linear base station power amplifiers for digital cellular and DCS-1800 applications, and provide fiber optic components for use both within switching centers, and to connect switching centers into today’s fiber optic tele-communications networks.

Optocouplers

HP offers a variety of optocouplers for isolating line receivers within central office switches and PBXs to eliminate ground loop noise that can interfere with communications.

Base station power amplifiers

HP is a leading supplier of RF power amplifiers to infrastructure manufacturers of cellular, PCN, PCS and Fixed Wireless Access base stations, which meet the demanding linearity requirements of the following standards: AMPS (North American Analog), IS-54 (North American Digital, TDMA), IS-95 (North American Digital, CDMA), CDPD, DCS-1800, GSM, PCS (GSM format), PCS (CDMA format), PCS (TDMA format). These products operate at output power up to 60 watts (RMS), and are designed to interface directly with the mechanical, thermal, control and monitor interface of cell site base station equipment.

Fiber optic transceivers, transmitters and receivers

HP’s datacom and telecom compo-nents are used both within central office switching equipment and in the external interfaces. In addition, HP has developed “gigabit link” transmitter and receiver chipsets that provide a complete link with all control functions. These include link startup and maintenance, partial framing, encoding, multiplexing, high-speed clock generation, clock and data recovery, demultiplexing, bit frame synchronization and decoding up to data rates of 1500 Mb/s.

Gigabit-rate transmit/receive IC set

HP’s gigabit-rate chipset provides high-speed serial data transmissions at rates from 150 MBd to 1500 MBd. This chipset offers an excellent way to build high-speed data links for point-to-point communications applications such as those found within cell-site switches. The chipset provides all encoding, multiplexing, clock extraction, demultiplexing and decoding.

Microwave and millimeter-wave components

HP offers several integrated circuits useful in various bands up to 50 GHz, including an attenuator, low-noise amplifier and low-to-medium power amplifiers.

Millimeter-wave assemblies

HP has developed a series of hybrid transmitter and down-converter modules for millimeter-wave digital wireless communications systems, at 23 and 38 GHz. These modules use a low-frequency silicon VCO which is multiplied up to the millimeter-wave frequency, providing full band coverage with one module.

RF components

Many of the same HP RF components used in handsets and wireless LAN applications are appropriate for use in the RF sections of base stations.

LED lamps

HP LED lamps provide a highly efficient, reliable light source for status indicators and pilot lights on equipment panels. Their very high reliability usually eliminates the need for lamp replacement for the life of the equipment.
